Matter of Opinion

President Patsy Paton welcomed a very interesting and varied panel of local speakers and a good turnout from neighbouring Rural institutes amongst the audience.

Chairman and local historian, David Orr introduced the panel, comprising Kirriemuir solicitor, teacher and gallery owner, Susie Clark, Forfar farmer's wife and Angus SWRI Federation Chair, Carol Steel, classicist, sailor and chicken keeper, Rev Bob Harley and Kirkinch based journalist and bon viveur, Brian Townsend. 

Margaret Jack thanked the panel for an entertaining evening which took in a comprehensive cross section of life and experience. 

A defibrillator has been purchased and the Community Council is to meet the cost of a box for it. Training in the use of the defibrillator is to be arranged. A silent auction is to be held to raise funds for a defibrillator for Clova.

Next meeting will be held on 2nd April; film evening will be held on 11th April and members are asked to bring a plate of food for supper.

Corners’ Night

February's meeting was a home made entertainment. A number of members demonstrated a variety of skills. 

Ella showed how to create flowers and cute animals from icing and marzipan, Margaret Jack showed off beadwork and silk ribbon embroidery, Gloria made up fascinators and wedding corsages, Susan and Margaret Mackie had samples and recipes for biscuits and oatcakes. At Valerie’s table a variety of pencils, paints and bird ornaments were available for members to paint a small picture of a bird. Patsy demonstrated a number of floral art arrangements. 

This was a most entertaining, informative and humorous evening.

Tea hostesses were Valerie McAlister and Sine Robertson.

Caroline Lang proposed the vote of thanks.

New Year, New Meeting

Our January meeting got the year off to an exotic start.

Francis Martin gave an interesting talk with photographs on her trekking holiday to Nepal with her
daughter. 

They flew to Kathmandu and trekked around the Pokhara region where roads were nonexistent  and paths often stone steps wound up and down valleys on Nepali flat, that is starting and ending one’s day at same altitude but climbing a great deal in between! The snow-capped ‘fishtail’ pinnacle mountain was often in their sights. It is one of the most renowned in the Nepal Himalayan range; climbing on it has been restricted as it is considered sacred. Accommodation was often basic, but food tasty. 

The highlight of the tour was a flight in a small aeroplane over the Himalayas so that they could view Mount Everest first hand.

Party Time!

President Patsy Paton welcomed everyone to a members’ night in December. We enjoyed an evening of fun and games; Gloria Mitchell demonstrated Christmas floral arrangements and organised a game of pass the parcel. Sandra presented a quiz.  All members contributed to a supper which was enjoyed by all.
