Our January meeting got the year off to an exotic start.
Francis Martin gave an interesting talk with photographs on
her trekking holiday to Nepal with her
daughter.
They flew to Kathmandu and trekked around the
Pokhara region where roads were nonexistent
and paths often stone steps wound up and down valleys on Nepali flat,
that is starting and ending one’s day at same altitude but climbing a great deal
in between! The snow-capped ‘fishtail’ pinnacle mountain was often in their sights. It is one of
the most renowned in the Nepal Himalayan range; climbing on it has been restricted as it is
considered sacred. Accommodation was often basic, but food tasty.
The highlight of the tour was a flight in a
small aeroplane over the Himalayas so that they could view Mount Everest first hand.
Moira Ronan proposed the vote of thanks.
